Inconsistency Between Socio-Spatial and Genetic Structure in a Coastal Dolphin Population

چکیده

Identifying population structure and boundaries among communities of wildlife exposed to anthropogenic threats is key successful conservation management. Previous studies on the demography, social spatial Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins ( Tursiops aduncus ) suggested four nearly discrete behavioral in Perth metropolitan waters, Western Australia. We investigated genetic these using highly polymorphic microsatellite markers part hypervariable segment mitochondrial control region. Overall, there was no evidence structure. found significant, yet very small differentiation between some communities, most likely due presence related individuals within communities. Our findings high levels contemporary migration point toward a panmictic with continuous gene flow each In species slow life histories fission-fusion dynamics, such as spp., socio-spatial structures may reflect different timescales. Thus, despite similarity, community should be considered distinct ecological unit conserved because they are occur habitats, being important information for immediate The estuarine community, particular, vulnerable appropriate measures needed order maintain its connectivity adjacent, semi-enclosed coastal

Spatial and population genetic structure of microsatellites in white pine.

We evaluated the population genetic structure of seven microsatellite loci for old growth and second growth populations of eastern white pine (Pinus strobus). From each population, located within Hartwick Pines State Park, Grayling, Michigan, USA, 120-122 contiguous trees were sampled for genetic analysis. Within each population, genetic diversity was high and inbreeding low. When comparing the...

Female reproductive success and calf survival in a North Sea coastal bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) population

Between-female variation in reproductive output provides a strong measure of individual fitness and a quantifiable measure of the health of a population which may be highly informative to management. In the present study, we examined reproductive traits in female bottlenose dolphins from the east coast of Scotland using longitudinal sightings data collected over twenty years. From a total of 10...

Association Between MTHFR Genetic Variants and Multiple Sclerosis in a Southern Iranian Population

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating neuro- inflammatory autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. Genetic predisposition has long been suspected in the etiology of this disease. The association between MTHFR polymorphisms and MS has been ivestigated in different ethnic groups. We investigated the association between MTHFR C677T and A1298C missense variants and MS in 180 patients ...
